Celebrating a Successful Game Jam at the Game Center

We’d like to again thank our participants for making this event the success it was, and encourage everyone that hasn’t, to explore all the games created at our local site by following the link here! For those interested in the experience of the Global Game Jam, you can read this write-up of the event at Washington Square News.

In celebration of the Global Game Jam wrap-up and their relocation back to the Silent Barn, Babycastles will be showcasing an entertaining day long event curated by the NYU Game Center and Arthur Ward, Jr. This Saturday, February 5th, at 2PM, Babycastles will open up the floor and let guests explore the games created last weekend at the NYU Game Center’s site of the Global Game Jam. The event will also include a workshop of mini-comics and presentation of the work at the The Center for Cartoon Studies. Additionally, Babycastles has put together and all-star set of chip-tune bands like Anamanaguchi, The J. Arthur Keenes Band, Nullsleep, Starscream, and George & Jonathan.

As for the games showcased at the event, there will be:

World of Spacecraft:

In a world where a meteor destroyed his entire planet, the last remaining dinosaur is out for revenge on the whole freakin’ galaxy. Harnessing a spacecraft born from a shooting star, this T-Rex won’t rest until every other world becomes…. EXTINCT!

Root:

Collect nutrients, water and energy as you guide a new species of plant through the treacherous earth.

VS:

Fire creates fire. Ice create ice. The only way for each to truly win is to completely eradicate the other.

S.E.X. Simulator

The Simulated Environment Xtinction Simulator simulates a simulation of an eco-system. You must attempt to maintain a harmonious balance between plants, herbivores and carnivores as they live and die, eat and reproduce.

Ned, You Really Suck the Life Out of a Room:

Control Ned in this color-based 2D platformer. Collect each level’s Color Cubes and watch as the world disappears around you.

We’d like to take this time to announce that Ned, You Really Suck the Life out of a Room was awarded, by Gamesauce.org, as one of the top ten premier games from the Global Game Jam from the +1500 that were developed during the event. Gamesauce.org, in collaboration with the IGDA Global Game Jam, have awarded these ten teams the incredible opportunity to meet and discuss their games with publishers of the industry at Casual Connect Europe, in Hamburg, Germany. Congratulations Randall Li, Chris Makris, Ben Norskov, Mathew Lo Presti, and Roger Cheng, for producing such a successful product!

For those interested in meeting the developers of these great games, as well as how they decided to design the games, there will be game presentations and game design talks by each of these teams around 4PM.

Come join us as we celebrate the hard-work and success of these outstanding teams!
