Save the Date! PRACTICE Returns November 9th – 11th

Save the date. PRACTICE: Game Design in Detail is back.

Last fall at the NYU Game Center, the PRACTICE conference brought together videogame designers, card and board game designers, and even the Secretary-Rules Editor of the NCAA Football Rules Committee.

Join us November 9-11 for another weekend of brilliant talks, intense debates, and playful socializing. Confirmed speakers include Richard Garfield of Magic: The Gathering fame, League of Legends lead designer Christina Norman, and JS Joust co-creator Doug Wilson.

PRACTICE is not an event about the business, technology, or educational aspects of games. It is focused squarely on game design itself: the day to day practice of being a game designer. Check out gamecenter.nyu.edu/practice for more details.

Game Center MFA

The Game Center MFA is a 2-year Masters of Fine Arts degree that explores the design and development of games as a creative practice.

Established in 2008, the NYU Game Center is part of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. We celebrate games as a creative practice, and offer courses and public programs on the design, production, and study of games as an aesthetic and cultural form. It is part of our mission to establish New York City as a center of innovation in this important field.

Open Library

The Open Library serves as a location where students of all colleges within the university can gather to experience first hand the enormous range of artistic expression available in games. Its purpose is to provide access to digital games within a context of critical analysis and discussion. The Open Library currently catalogues nearly 1,000 titles between 14 systems.

The Open Library is also a community center for the Game Center, hosting events including the NYU PLAY! Club, student librarian curation events, tournaments, and more.

The Open Library is open Monday-Friday, 12pm-8pm in 721 Broadway, Lower Level.
