NYPLarcade Game Club at the Mid-Manhattan Library

The Mid-Manhattan Library, has started a weekly game club program. “What is a game club? Think of it as a book club, but for video games,” Thomas Knowlton, senior librarian said in his announcement post on the NYPL blog. The Game Club kicked off back in May, and the first series looks at the works of Jenova Chen, co-founder of thatgamecompany. The first game in the series was Journey, followed by Flower, and, just last night, flOw. This series concludes tonight, 6/12/12 with a look at Cloud, a game that Chen created with other students while he was studying at USC in 2005.

The Game Club meetings are on Tuesday nights at 7pm. The first hour is dedicated to playing and/or watching the featured game, and the final half hour is used for discussion. You can RSVP here, but it’s not necessary in order to attend. The NYPL will have plenty of gaming-related events coming in the future, and more Game Club series could be a part of that. Keep your eyes here and on the NYPL blog for more information. You can also follow the NYPL on Twitter here.
