Congratulations to the 2025 Alfred P Sloan Grant award winning team Audionaut!

Audionaut is a 2D music composition spaceship autobattler. Taking inspiration from modular synthesis, players make music using the component parts of their ship. As you defeat ever stronger enemies and build a better ship, so too will your composition grow. Can you make it back to the ruins of a shattered Earth and heal it with your song?

From the team:

Audionaut was born out of our desire to explore a largely unexplored space in music games: one where music composition is motivated by gameplay. This little game about creation, space, and humanity has shaken many of our own perspectives on composition, games, and how sound even works in space. You can tag along with us through this journey (and join our discord!) here

About the Alfred P. Sloan Grant

Beginning in 2016, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s Public Understanding of Science, Technology & Economics program has awarded a yearly grant to fund game development at the NYU Game Center. Students who are making games that portray science & technology with originality and insight are connected with scientists early in their development process. Over the course of the year, the students work with the scientists to integrate the subject matter and the games. After graduation, students can apply for a grant that gives one game resources to develop and launch the game to the public.
