Once again, we’re gearing up for PRACTICE: Game Design in Detail – the Game Center’s annual conference for game designers of all kinds.
This year, thanks to the continued support of Games for Change, we’re delighted to be able to again offer sponsored passes. We’re very proud of the diverse practices of design that the conference brings together – videogame designers, board-game makers, dance battlers, sports league administrators. We want to ensure that the audience for the event is equally representative, and that everyone who has something to add to the event is able to attend. However, we also understand the realities – including financial hardship – that can make that difficult.
For this year’s event, we’re able to offer 5 passes at the highly reduced rate of $50, for people who otherwise would not be able to attend.
Inspired by XOXO’s approach to making their event accessible, we’re instituting a simple application system.
If you need a sponsored pass to attend Practice, please get in touch using this form and let us know. Each request will be reviewed by a small, diverse group of advisors with personal experience in supporting and advocating for underrepresented groups. This year, that group will be formed of Naomi Clark, Desiree Aultman, Robert Yang.
The advisory group will consider two questions when reviewing responses: Would this person be able to attend Practice without the support of a sponsored pass? And will attending the conference benefit this person’s game-making practice?
Deadline for sponsored pass requests is October 31st, 2016. We’ll let everyone know if their requests are successful at the beginning of November. Do get in touch via gamecenter@nyu.edu if you have any questions about the program.
Thanks again to Games for Change for making this new initiative possible.
