Design can impact the world. The idea of creating content that inspires change has been explored in all forms of media and is usually most successful when the work is created by people who care about the form as well as the cause. This class aims to help students who are passionate about games and other forms of design create work that facilitates impact and promotes the missions of its partners.
Partnering with the United Nations and the OpenAir Collective, students will formulate pitches to help promote the UN’s mission of preventing war, advance human rights, and encourage social progress. Some of these pitches will be selected to be developed into prototypes to be exhibited at the UN. The class also work on designs with the OpenAir Collective to generate solutions to make the UN Climate Conference, COP28, a more productive experience for attendees. The NYU Game Center has run successful classes of this kind in the past, partnering with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, and iCivics.
