Zimmerman writes foreword to Characteristics of Games
Game Center faculty Eric Zimmerman wrote the foreword to what may be the next classic book on game design theory. Characteristics of Games, by tabletop game design legends Skaff Elias, Richard Garfield, and Robert Gutschera, takes a deep dive into the nuts and bolts mechanics of how game systems work – on and off the computer. Isbister gives keynote at MobileHCI
Faculty member Katherine Isbister gave a keynote at MobileHCI about the development of Yamove!–a game which was an IndieCade Nominee this year, and that debuted at Game Center’s No Quarter show this past May.

Armada d6 in the Huffington Post
Since it received the Game Design award at IndieCade last week, Game Center faculty Eric Zimmerman has been getting some press attention for Armada d6, a tabletop strategy game he created with designer John Sharp. Juul speaks at the 13th World Knowledge Forum in Seoul
Faculty member Jesper Juul gave an invited talk at the 13th World Knowledge Forum in Seoul, Korea, known as “Asia’s Davos forum”. He spoke on the topic of using game design concepts in non-game contexts.

The Game Center redesigns New York City
Recently at the Game Center, faculty Eric Zimmerman led an intensive design workshop that brought together Game Center MFA students, local NYC game designers, and representatives of NYC city departments including homeless services, probation, and the mayor’s office. A joint project with SeeChangeNYC, the workshop sought to find positive game design interventions into the lives of some of the city’s most challenged New Yorkers.
