Why are you studying games?
I really enjoy making art. I originally thought I wanted to make films, but after finding game development I can't see myself doing anything else. I also have so many great memories of playing games, and the people around me like my little brother and my friends do too, so I want to help be a force behind making new memories like those.
Describe your favorite project made by a classmate.
My favorite project made by my classmates is probably the collaborative project: Arcade Friend. This arcade cabinet with a friend inside was a very surreal experience to play, and at the same time was touching and gave the opportunity for a unique human connection. I am glad to have experienced it and think about it often. https://marieflanagan.com/arcade-friend/
Describe your most embarrassing playtesting moment.
In Intro to Game Design, we were testing our Musical Theater inspired board game Theater Battle, and we had just started a session with all the pieces in places and the teams ready to go and just as our TA walked by and said hi, I slipped and knocked the whole table over.
Describe one memorable lecture, assignment, or exercise you've had at the Game Center.
The Procedural Generation lab assignment in Intermediate Game Development made me feel like my mind was opening to a new realm of infinite procedural possibilities.
How has the Game Center changed your thinking about games?
I think I see certain things from the design prospective when I play games in my free time or with friends, and I'd like to think I can empathize with the designers and developers who's work I interface with when considering decisions they made in the creation process. I also think I consider the artistic value of games more often than before my time here.
What do you hope to accomplish after school?
I hope to be a part of a team making games that people love. Specifically I want to make a game that my friends and little brother would be excited about even if I wasn't on the team making it.
What's the last great game you played and what's great about it?
The last great game I played has probably got to be Dungeons & Dragons 5e. I think one of the greatest things about it, is it is probably the last two or three great games I've played, all with different stories and different groups of people, and the fact that it supports that level of diversity and flexibility while still providing great experiences is I think very impressive.
What's your favorite New York City spot?
You can probably find me at Brooklyn Bridge Park many weekends.
