2020 Games

The 7th NYU Game Center Incubator cohort added four exceptional games to the forty-two games funded from 2014-2019. AiliA, The Cheaters, SKIN, and Swordswallower were supported by the growing ranks of Incubator advisors and alumni, working together to bring these games to players and to jump start new game development studios in New York.

This talented group of nine developers created and executed a strategy for tackling the design, production, financial, marketing, and legal challenges of game development. Below you’ll find more information on each of the games as well as updates on the games current status or launch.

The success of the Incubator is made possible by support from many people and organizations. This year, the Bigglesworth Family Foundation will provide $25,000 in follow-on funding to at least one project whose team is composed of one or more developers from under-represented demographics. Increasing the amount of financial support we can provide developers after the Incubator has been a long-time goal of the Incubator, and we’re grateful for the Foundation’s support to make that possible.

SKIN

by Sarah Doukakos and Theo Doukakos

SKIN is a divination hunting game that mixes third person action and exploration with themes of pagan gods, horror, self discovery, and revenge.

You are Artemis, goddess of the hunt, stalking those who haunt your woods, and exacting a blood price for their transgressions. Players will solve puzzles in the form of blood magic/divination, speak to strange creatures with hidden motives, and discover new abilities as they fight macabre beasts and cruel gods in a moonlit forest.

Swordswallower

by Julia Del Matto & Uti Azulay

Swordswallower is a psych-goth action platformer where players traverse and fight only by throwing their massive enchanted sword. The player can’t jump, instead launching their sword into the environment and pulling themselves toward it with tremendous force. Around this unique mechanic is built a mysterious and hostile fantasy world that unfolds in every direction.
