Lee McGirr

Lee (@MxGRRR) McGirr is a Brooklyn based artist and game designer. They are a graduate from NYU’s MFA in Game Design class of 2023 and also hold a BFA in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM from Tyler School of Art. They have previously worked in studio crafts and digital fabrication as a designer, teacher, metalworker, and glassblower and approach their game design practice as a craft artist. Major influences include David Pye’s The Nature and Art of Workmanship, Legacy Russell’s Glitch Feminism, and Bernie De Koven’s The Well-Played Game. Their current practice is a mix of tech art and AR experimentation in the form of games and digital jewelry, as well as freelance tabletop board game design. Themes include identity and gender in cyberspace, early 2000’s internet culture, and growing up punk and queer in America. Their work has shown at group shows in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and The American Museum of Natural History, as part of New York City Jewelry Week, and at game showcases in Brooklyn, New Orleans, and San Francisco.
