From Librarian Harry Rabinowitz:
Growing up with the PS1, PS2, and Gamecube, I played tons of games that had swords. And while I may have forgotten the characters in those games, I still remember the swords they used.
What I can’t figure out for the life of me is why.
Why are we so attracted to swords and swordplay? Why have swords like Link’s Master Sword and Cloud’s Buster Sword become icons in and of themselves? Why are there swords in games with guns when, as history has shown, guns are vastly superior weapons?
This curation explores and celebrates the swords and swordplay of video games. Games featured showcase iconic swords of gaming, games with deep swordplay mechanics, and games where the sword(s) color or drive the plot.
Games featured are Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Final Fantasy VII, Halo: Reach, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Blade Symphony, and Nidhogg. Come play and discuss using the hashtag #SwordWeek.
