Lawra Suits Clark is a Visiting Assistant Arts Professor at the NYU Game Center. They received their MFA in Game Design from this very program in 2014, as part of the inaugural class of Masters students. Prior to that they received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Production and Sound Design from Ohio University in 2007.
Lawra is the co-founder of Babycastles Gallery, established in 2014, a 501c3 Non-Profit gallery and venue dedicated to showcasing contemporary independent videogames and other media by marginalized creators. Babycastles has been an internationally active volunteer-run arts organization since 2009, and plays host to a wide array of events, workshops, and exhibitions. Lawra’s personal work involves climate fiction, absurdist futures, death positivity, ambient play, and allegorical fantasy, with a focus on game mechanics as poetic devices.
Since 2016 Lawra has taught various classes in game design, development, studies, and literacy as an adjunct professor at Tisch School of the Arts, Tandon School of Engineering, and the School for Poetic Computation in NYC. Their works have won a number of awards, including Grand Prize at Ludicious Festival in Zurich Switzerland, and have been nominated or featured at many other game festivals and conferences across the globe.
