The NYU Game Center Lecture Series is proud to welcome Cara Ellison, game critic and author of the Embed with Games series.

Cara Ellison has spent the past year traveling all over the world speaking with game developers from London to Kuala Lumpur. Her talk, “The Birth of the Gamemaker”, will focus on a universal shift away from player-focused game making to game making as an expression of how the gamemaker feels about the world or medium.

“It’s the birth of the gamemaker. It’s the most exciting time to be in games. We are making what we want how we want. The proof is in every interview I’ve done this year. Now designers are much braver, and much more confident they will reach someone no matter what they say with games.”

Cara Ellison is a Scottish writer, who’s work has been published in places like The Guardian, The New Statesman. She writes a column for Rock Paper Shotgun called (S.EXE), and is currently working on the Embed Series, a series of long form pieces based on interviews with gamemakers from all over the world.
