Why are you studying games?
I've never fallen neatly into either the STEM camp or the arts camp, although I've lived in both at different points in my life. Games are the one place where I can use my aptitude for logic and systems thinking to create art.
Describe your favorite project made by a classmate.
I absolutely loved seeing all the work that came out of our Interactive Fiction project. Every one of these games I played felt expressive, and very revealing of the designers who made them.
Describe your most embarrassing playtesting moment.
Working on a tabletop RPG, my partner and I sat down with the first group of playtesters, explained the rules to them, then told them to start. The playtesters looked around the table uncomfortably, then began staring at us. Suddenly it hit me--we had never thought about how the players start the game!
What's your secret weapon?
Math!
Describe one memorable lecture, assignment, or exercise you've had at the Game Center.
Naomi Clark's lecture on Situationism showed me the power that games have to critique and reform our culture.
What do you hope to accomplish after school?
Work at a small indie studio, or find a job building theme park rides.
What's your favorite New York City spot?
The Brooklyn Heights Promenade
