The NYU Game Center Showcase takes place every May and is the culminating event of our academic year. Our students exhibit their games, research, and projects to a public audience. You are likely to find screen-based video games, tabletop board and card games, mixed-media installations, high-energy sports, and any other kind of game project you can think of. The Showcase is open to the public, drawing upwards of five hundred guests each year, including recruiters, investors, academics, independent developers, and journalists.
The year-long thesis and capstone projects of our graduating MFA and BFA students are the highlight of each show, but we also include work from across our department. The Showcase is the best way to get a sense of exactly what happens at the NYU Game Center.
In 2020, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the NYU Game Center Showcase moved entirely online. The Showcase transformed into a six-hour twitch stream celebration of the work from the 2019-2020 year, featuring game trailers, interviews with the student teams, and special guests. You can watch the Showcase MFA segment on YouTube here and the BFA segment on YouTube here. In 2021, we iterated on the online Showcase format, presenting MFA & BFA games together in a two-day live-stream, which you can watch here. Going forward, we plan to integrate a live-stream into the in-person Showcase to give our talented developers multiple avenues to show-off their impressive projects.
